The Lives of Others

Rating:  A

This is set in the 80's in East Germany.  The "stasi" are secretly watching the theater people (writers, directors, actors) in an effort to eliminate any artists that speak out against the government.  When a writer is under surveillance, the officer watching him starts to have second thoughts about what the government does to people.

This is an excellent movie.  Should be watched by everyone so as not to forget what can happen when you don't live in a democratic state.

I didn't really know what this movie was about when I started watching it, and it took me a bit to get in the groove, but I really loved it once I figured it all out.
