So I sat through the four hour tele-bore last night. Luckily I had some work to do or I would have fallen asleep. There's just something about knowing who is probably going to win that takes all the fun out of awards shows.
I did do a OHMYGOD yell when Alan Arkin knocked out Eddie Murphy for best supporting actor. Now, I have not seen "Dreamgirls" but I have seen "Little Miss Sunshine" and AA was just great in that film.
I thought that Ellen DeGeneres did a decent job of hosting. I've read around the web that people thought she was too cutesy and not edgy enough for the show. Well, this is my response to that: Ellen is known for a certain kind of comedy, all of her shows have the same tone and her stand up specials carry that same tone. So with Ellen, you know what you are getting. Which is what she was last night. I thought she did a good job for a first-time host and I hope she returns. The hosts that were edgy in the past - were not asked back. Anyway, I like Ellen's style and bravo to her.
The Al Gore lovefest that prevailed throughout the event was vomit-worthy. First of all, his powerpoint presentation has been debunked by actual scientists. Yes, we should be more aware of emissions - however the most toxic emissions come from cows not cars...is the solution to kill off all the cows and everyone become vegetarians? I'm tired of all the "Global Warming Hoopla". If it is such a problem - why are countries around the world reporting record low temperatures this year? Riddle me that... Anyway - I could give a flying crap if he runs for President. Any candidate that thinks that Global Warming is the biggest problem we have now - is not fit to be president.
Off. Soapbox.
I teared up at that composers Italian speech. I had no idea what he was saying but I could tell it was heartfelt. Those huge glasses just made him look sweet.
"The Departed" was a good movie - but was it best picture? Granted, I didn't see most of the nominees but I did see The Departed and Little Miss Sunshine and thought that Little Miss Sunshine was better.
I loved Ken Watanabe's wife in her traditional Kimono...she looked so good.
Speaking of looking good: Everyone is putting Penelope Cruz on their best dressed and, yes she looked good, but I thought that the best dressed was a tie between Helen Mirren and Kate Winslet. Go Brits!
Clive Owen didn't look like crap either...*sigh*
